Bronze and Mother's Prayer

Even though it was released at the end of last November, the new song by the Perunggu band entitled "Tapi" is getting even more popular on Mother's Day, which falls on December 22, 2024. This song tells the story of how a mother's prayer is considered to have great magical energy in accompanying her child through life, even when she is away from home.

In fact, Mother's Day in Indonesia refers to the women's movement to gain equality. However, it is often thought to be a celebration for mothers only.

After releasing their debut album, Memorandum, two years ago, this is the first time the pop rock trio from Jakarta, consisting of Maul Ibrahim (guitar, vocals), Adam Adenan (bass, vocals), and Ildo Hasman (drums, vocals) have created another work. This time, the lyrics were written by Maul.

"The lyrics were written right after a chat session about being grateful and pouring out my feelings to my wife, just remembering all the important phases of making crucial decisions in life," said Maul.

The lyrics in this single record various processes and phases of life related to all the decisions taken and always become a puzzle packaged with worries on his journey. However, all forms of worry actually change into strong beliefs when accompanied by prayers from a mother.

"Especially at that time, remembering the decision to move to find work and live in Jakarta, I was nervous but immediately became confident thanks to my mother's prayers," said Maul, who had lived in Bandung but then moved to Jakarta to work.

He added that moving to another city to continue life and earn a living is a challenging stage. Since the story in his song is a personal experience, Bandung and Jakarta are also the cities that form the background.

The song, which is arranged as a bridge from the second album, is done together with Enrico Octaviano and Petra Sihombing as producers. This collaboration is based on the friendship and experience of the two producers who have produced hits with local musicians.

Musically, “Tapi” comes with a new style of musical composition compared to the numbers in Memorandum. “Humans are naturally curious. Plus, the three of us also listen to various genres of music,” said Maul.

For that reason, this difference in style becomes something fun in the process of working on it. This is also applied to other prospective songs that will fill the new album in 2025. "So, when I started making demos for the second album, automatically looking for something different became the main foundation. To make it exciting and dynamic," he concluded.
